Is the self an adequate bridge between the results of neuroscience and the notion of person?
One may not do without the notion of self. Our own point of view is always implied in what we perceive, and pretending to think without presupposing ourselves as subjects is simply not possible. But how should we incorporate this inescapable but fuzzy notion within a neuroscientifc perspective? Which metaphor better enlightens the relation between the self and the brain: the one of the pilot in the ship or the one of the software of a computer? Is the self something real, a person or just the outcome of a process?
