Dr. Mariano Asla, associate professor of the School of Medicine and researcher of the Philosophy Institute, presented a communication in the Conference Transhumanism: Antropological, juridical, ethical and theological challenges, that took place in the University of Comillas (Madrid) on May 29-31. The presentation consisted in a philosophical apology of the biological limit, from the particular analysis of the proposal of the transhumanist philosopher Zoltan Istvan to eliminate sleeping as a means to extend the active and conscious life time.

Two of the most outstanding figures of the Transhumanist movement took part in the event, the oxonian professors: Julian Savulescu and Anders Sandberg. Likewise, internationally renowned philosophers such as Juan Arana, Antonio Diéguez, and Elena Postigo participated. Among the scientific speakers the conference had the presences of Dr. Jane Ann Driver, oncologist, gerontologist and aging specialist at Harvard University and Spanish engineer Sara Lumbreras who developed the issue of artificial intelligence.
