It is a commonplace that interdisciplinary dialogue is difficult. This is due to several reasons: the so-called border issues are complex, there is always a context of meaning which is common to the interlocutors, each discipline speaks a different language and develops a particular bias, which, while allowing for expertise often lessens sensitivity to other fields. All this may be true, but is sstill insufficient. In fact, interdisciplinary dialogue is not difficult … it is impossible. It is impossible because it is not disciplines that enter into dialogue but people.
Our interdisciplinary discussion groups seek to build a network of scientists and philosophers with a genuine interest in common themes. By fostering a climate of respect and mutual trust, the intersecting of interests can then naturally take place give rise to interdisciplinary research projects.
